My Top Drugstore Face Powders

As some of you may know, I have oily skin and out of all the makeup products, I go through face powders the fastest because I tend to blot and powder my face throughout the day. With that said, drugstore face powders are more ideal for me than high end powders because I go through them so quick that I don't want to be spending too much money on high end powders. So here are my favourite face powders from the drugstore.

Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder is my everyday go to face powder that I use just to set my face or control my oils. It looks natural and blends seamlessly to the skin.
Loreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder has a great variation of shades for different undertones. It blends in nicely while keeping my face matte as well as providing a little extra coverage.
NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder is my go to setting powder when I don't want or need any extra coverage. It's translucent so it doesn't affect the shade of my foundation. It keeps my face matte while feeling light on my skin.
Maybelline Fit Me Face Powder is great for those of you who don't quite like to look really matte. This controls my oils while making my skin look healthy. If you look closely, there are micro shimmers that are barely detectable. Don't worry, they're not noticeable on the skin (unless you're all up in my face of course, haha!) I think that's their secret into making the powder give you a slight nice healthy glowing finish.

What are your favourite drugstore face powders?

Swatch & Review: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking

Revlon's Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking is a warm red coral shade.
  • Mint scented
  • Settles into lip lines
  • Not as long lasting as the original Revlon balms
Overall, I didn't care for this product. Maybe the other shades are better in terms of product application and longevity but this particular one in Striking was a miss for me.

August Empties 2014

Hi everyone! I've been going through products pretty quickly recently. Here are my empties this month!
Skin Below the Chin Body Spray in Pure & Clean is a fresh smelling body spray that you spray on your skin. It contains beneficial ingredients like aloe and argan oil. This is perfect for those of you who dislike that slippery icky feeling that body lotions give you.
Clean & Clear's Deep Cleaning Astringent with salicylic acid really helped keep my acne at bay. I like that it is effective yet affordable.
Revlon Colorstay powder & Milani Face Powder were both great for setting my foundation/concealer and keeping my face matte for a longer period of time. The Milani powder added some coverage while the Revlon Colorstay was best for touch ups since it did not add any color to my skin.
Neutrogena's Deep Clean Blotting Sheets are your typical blotting sheets. They work well and do what they're supposed to.
Rimmel London's Match Perfection Highlighter & Concealer has been my favorite concealer in a while now. Yes, I actually cut it open to get the left over product. I love using this to even out my skin tone; it gives such a natural finish without accentuating the dry spots on my skin.
Garnier's Moisture Rescue Gel Cream is a great refreshing moisturizer for the summer time. Its light gel consistency is especially great for oily skin since it's not overly heavy or oily.
Oh yes, my holy grail toner. Clinique's Acne Solution Clarifying Lotion keeps my face clear from breakouts, treats my breakouts, and doesn't dry my skin out. I love this toner and I will be getting a new bottle soon.

Summer Stroll: OOTD

Summer is almost over and I've been trying to enjoy days off as much as possible. This day, I decided to head over to the Chinese park in my area and head over to a nice cafe to cool off.
Floral Cap: Joe Boxer from Kmart
Heart Sunglasses: Ebay
Chiffon Top: Ross
Black Shorts: H&M
Sneakers: Keds
I found out that the cafe I went to is owned by an acquaintance of mine and his family. He ended up making me flower art on the latte I ordered.

Expired Makeup: Foundations, Reviews, & How to Tell if a Foundation is Expired

How can you tell if your foundation is expired?
  1. The color is different or the color changed in contrast to what the shade was when you first got it.
  2. You can see the liquid separation in which the clear liquid is separating from the actual colored foundation.
  3. The texture is different from when you first got it.
  4. You notice an odor change.
  5. You've had it for over 12 to 18 months.

A lot of us have a makeup collection in which has a bunch of makeup that has been accumulating for years. I decided to go through my makeup drawers and get rid of the expired makeup I have. Here are the expired foundations I found in my collection.

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Foundation comes out in a mousse texture. It made my skin feel oily and another bad point is that it has a really bad odor. I definitely disliked this foundation since the first day I tried it.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation gave a good medium coverage. I got the one for oily skin and it works well in keeping my oils at bay for a little longer than other foundations. I did have trouble with the foundation adhering to dry patches.

Covergirl Trublend Foundation, Almay Clear Complexion Foundation, and Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation all did not give the coverage I wanted. They gave light to light medium coverage and they did not stand out to be anything special so I barely used them.

Empties: July 2014

Hello everyone! I am back with an empties post. I feel so accomplished whenever I finish a product, don't you?
One of the easiest products to go through are facial wipes. Both the Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes and Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes are gentle and removed my face makeup well without irritating my face.
The Pssssst dry shampoo worked well. It didn't stand out in any way but it did what it did its job well.
I used up two different toners. The Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion is a toner that contains salicylic acid to treat acne; It is my holy grail item that helps keep my skin clear of break outs. I am already finishing up the bottle I'm using right now. The Simple Soothing Facial Toner is another great toner; It is a very gentle toner that's great for sensitive skin.
I used the REN Replenishing Night Serum as a daily moisturizer. It worked well in moisturizing my skin and prepping my skin for makeup application. It's supposed to help reduce the appearance of redness and scars. I didn't see a huge different in results but I saw that it maintained my skin from breakouts.
Face powders are also products that I go through quickly especially since I have oily skin. The Physicians Formula Mineral Face Powder gives some coverage so it reminds me of a powder foundation. It gives a natural finish which I love. The Maybelline Dream Matte Powder is great for touch ups and keeping my face matte. It's best used as a finishing powder. Of the two, I prefer the Physicians Formula powder.
Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer did not do anything for me. I disliked how it had a salmon tint to it and it didn't help with my makeup application or makeup longevity at all.
The Scentsy Bar in Honeymoon Hideaway smells amazing. It has a tropical fruity and fresh scent. It is by far my favorite Scentsy scent.

May Favorites 2014

Welcome to a favorites post! I haven't done one of these posts in a while so I decided I wanted to share what I've been loving recently.
The Skin Below the Chin Body Spray in Pure & Clean  is not your typical body spray. It not only has a lovely fresh scent but it also has moroccan argan oil to help soften skin, yes, skin! You spray this all over your skin and it keeps your skin nourished and hydrated. I've had so many compliments on how I smell when I wear this. Smelling good plus compliments and skin nourishment? It's a win-win in my book!
Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion has helped bring back moisture to my dry surfaced skin. I have oily skin but deal with dry patches from acne medicated products so this has helped bring my skin back to life.
The Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment has been my life saver. I haven't had any problems with dry lips since this has been in my life. It keeps my lips moisturized throughout the day.
Loreal's True Match Super-Blendable Concealer (Shade N1-2) is great for covering up discoloration while looking natural. I dot this all over my acne scars and pat it with my flat top kabuki brush to get a natural coverage.
Jordana's Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner is my new holy grail eyeliner! It is really affordable, around $3, and it is very opaque. It doesn't smudge on me throughout the day yet it's still easy to remove at the end of the night.
Lastly, I have been loving my NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder for setting my makeup. It helps keep my oils at bay for a longer period of time and it really does give a nice smooth finish.

Review: Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry

When I first saw this line on beauty blogs and YouTube videos, I immediately wanted to get my hands on the raspberry one. The packaging design and color won me over. Also, the product smells amazing, exactly like raspberries. On the other hand, the product itself didn't win me over so much. It has a sort of sticky texture, not as smooth as I hoped for in a lip butter. It's not as moisturizing as some other lip butters I've tried but still moisturizing enough for those who don't struggle with super dehydrated lips.

Review: Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that I struggle with my oily skin. Wait, that's not all. I not only have oily skin but I also deal with dry patches. My skin produces oil throughout the day but the surface of my skin has dry patches. This is the reason why I cannot get myself to try matte foundations; they tend to look horrible on my skin.
Today, I will be reviewing the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation. I decided to give it a shot because it was very affordable, $5.49 in my local drugstore.
As you can see, it claims to be lightweight and have shine control. It was definitely not lightweight to me; I felt that I was wearing makeup, in this case foundation. It has a matte finish and had shine control for about 3 hours before I was in desperate need of a blotting sheet.

As I mentioned earlier, although I have oily skin, I deal with dry patches. This foundation adhered to my dry patches no matter if I used a moisturizer or a primer. It did not have a natural look at all, which is to be expected for a matte finish.

This foundation has medium to buildable full coverage although I do not recommend layering it as it may get too thick and heavy on the skin.
This is the lightest shade from the line, which is 010 light porcelain.

Overall, I really like the coverage of this foundation but I would not recommend it to people with dry skin. If you struggle with dry patches like me then you should skip this foundation. It also doesn't look natural; it will look like you are using makeup. So if you're into the more natural looking foundations, this is not for you.

 Love, Chris
